App Manager - The Application Category

Below the Applications list, the Install button allows you to publish a Digitise app to the App Server which has previously been published to a package file. This can be a completely new app or a new version of an existing app.

Choose this button to display the Install Application dialog box from where you can browse for the package file and install it.

 

Below the Applications list, the Remove button allows you to delete an app.

Select the app you want to remove and then choose the Remove button. The Remove Application dialog box appears and you can specify whether you want to delete all installed versions of the app or just a specific one.

 

When an individual app is selected, the right-hand pane displays the Properties for the selected app, allowing you to view and change them. If the app has had more then one version published, you can configure the Properties separately for different versions. The Version drop-down list allows you to choose the version whose Properties you want to see or edit. The latest version should be automatically selected when the pane is initially displayed.

Note, however, that the Installation Property, which allows you to specify whether users are able to choose whether or not to download the app, applies to all versions of the app and cannot be set individually.

The Properties include restricting which users can access the app and specifying the use of encryption and compression. Properties which include the option to set the value to Default, if set to Default, will take their value from the default values set under the Server Category .

 

Access to the app is granted or denied using the Access Control list.

 

You can enter a message to be displayed on your mobile devices prior to an upgrade to the selected version using the Messages… button. Enter the required message under Upgrade message (All Other Platforms).

 

You can view a list of files which make up a version of the app and even extract files, if the app has had its files published to the App Server Configuration Database, by clicking on the View Application Files hyperlink. Remember to select the version of the app whose files you want to see in the Version drop-down before you click on the link.

To extract files from the App Server Configuration Database, when the file list is displayed, select the required files and then choose the Extract button.

 

Below the Properties, at the bottom of the dialog box, you can find Status information including the last activity recorded for this app and the amount of data sent and received.

 

The Properties tab for an individual app includes a Data Sources… button. Choosing this button will display information about the Data Sources used in this app. If you want to change the connection string for one or more Data Sources within a published app, you do not need to re-edit the app's Project in App Studio. You can simply enter the new string(s) here. This can be useful if you move data source locations or if you want to temporarily point the app to different data sources, e.g. for testing purposes.

For example, these settings allow you to change the connection string for an ADO Database Data Source to swap between test data and the live data sources when you release an app or to change the URL for a SOAP Web Service without having to change the WSDL.

 

Choosing the Data Sources… button will display the Application Data Sources dialog box:

Choose the type of data source(s) you want to view at the top of the dialog box to see a list of all Data Sources of this type within the current app. Selecting a Data Source within the list will display the editable Properties for that Data Source in the Settings fields.

To change the Settings for one or more Data Sources, first click on the check box to the left of each Data Source that you want to change. Then click on the check box for each Setting you want to edit and enter the new value for that Setting. When you have finished, choose the Update button to save your changes or the Close button to close the dialog box and abandon your changes.

If you select multiple Data Sources, all Data Sources selected will have the same change applied. This can be useful for example if you have to swap out a server and need to change the location of multiple Data Sources all pointing to the original server. If you want to apply different changes to different Data Sources, you will need to edit the Data Sources separately.

When you have finished, choose the Close button to return to the Application Properties.
